Former Blue Jays slugger may not be a Dodger in 2025
According to Will Sammon of The Athletic, Teoscar Hernandez wants to return to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
While that's a sign they'd be willing to figure out a deal for him, he didn't say he wouldn't play for the Toronto Blue Jays or a different club.
Teoscar is coming off a great year for the Dodgers, posting a 3.5 fWAR and a 134 wRC+. He hit 33 home runs, stole 12 bases, and slashed .272/.339/.501.
In the playoffs, he put up a 119 wRC+ and was a huge piece of the Dodgers 2024 World Series run
Hernandez is coming off an impressive campaign for the�Los Angeles Dodgers, but if they don't have money left over to sign him, he could be on his way out.
It's an interesting thought, as he was one of the main reasons for them winning the World Series, but it can't be counted out.
Sportrac projects Hernández to sign a three-year, $71 million deal in free agency, which would put him at a $23.8 million AAV.
However, with Blake Snell's new 5-year $182 million contract, the Dodgers may not be able to bring back Teoscar.�
Teoscar is a slightly cheaper, but older version of Anthony Santander. Teoscar hits for plenty of power but plays below-average defense in a corner outfield spot.
The New York Yankees are rumored to go after Hernandez hard as a cheaper alternative if they lose Juan Soto to another club.
The Blue Jays, Boston Red Sox, Baltimore Orioles and even the Atlanta Braves are rumored to go after Hernandez as they look to improve run production.
Besides the money and term of all those teams coveting Hernandez, a reunion with his buddy Vladimir Guerrero Jr in Toronto seems to make the most sense to Blue Jays fans.
However the commitment from a club to winning now will come into play for sure, and I'm not sure how the Jays compare to the other clubs looking for his services.
After all they did trade him to Seattle for Erik Swanson and Adam Mako in 2022.
While a reunion in Toronto would be great its all up to Teoscar Hernandez in the end.
