The Dominican outfielder with the Greek-sounding name was with the major league club for just over a month back in 2019. Needless to say, it did not go well.
In 17 games for the Blue Jays Brito hit a for a paltry .077. avg (that's 3-19 if you're keeping track) with zero HRs and 2 RBI's.
He struck out 17 times, walked four times, and had an OPS+ of -19. The Blue Jays mercifully cut him loose in May.
Although he never found success in Toronto and in his three partial seasons in Arizona prior to that, Brito has shown flashes of brilliance in the minor leagues, where he was a Triple-A All-Star in 2018 while playing in the Diamondbacks farm system.
After being demoted by the Blue Jays, he finished out the year in Buffalo where he did manage to club 16 home runs.
However, like many major league castoffs, Brito found success across the world in Asia.
After minor-league stints with both the Pittsburgh Pirates and New York Yankees, Brito signed a contract with Kia Tigers of the KBO League in South Korea.
After limping his way through the majors, Brito became an All-Star in Korea and has hit .305. with 63 HRs across three seasons with the Tigers, which culminated with them winning the KBO Championship this past season.
New York Post's Jon Heyman has indicated that a «handful» of teams have expressed interest in the former big league outfielder, though he didn't name any specific teams.
While he was never a great hitter, teams could be intrigued by his speed. During his time in the bigs, Brito was clocked as having the fastest sprint speed out of all right fielders at nearly 30 feet/second.
Given his success in Gwangju however, it's possible that Brito decides to continue playing in the KBO and ride out the rest of his career there.
