There are five former Blue Jays on the ballot and with one week to go, they are seeing various levels of support.
Newcomers Curtis Granderson and Troy Tulowitzki have yet to garner a single vote and will most likely fall off the ballot after this year. (Players need to receive a minimum of 5% to be considered for future ballots).
Fellow first-timer Russell Martin is approaching the threshold, sitting at 4.8%, with just under 35% of ballots known. While Martin faces an uphill battle to get over the hump, his support largely stems from new valuations and catching metrics that favour stats like pitch framing. Martin, along with fellow ballot debutant Brian McCann, were considered two of the top pitch framers of their era.
The other two former Blue Jays on the ballot have been there a while.
Pitcher Mark Buehrle is currently polling at 13.5%. In his first four years on the BBWAA ballot, the five-time All-Star has fluctuated between 5.8-11%. While he will most likely survive another year, he still has a long way to go. With a relatively weak incoming class in 2026, he has the potential to shoot up next year.
Omar Vizquel is our final Blue Jay on the ballot. He sits right next to Buehrle, also at 13.5%. Just four years ago, Vizquel was above 50%. However, his case has been hampered in recent years by allegations of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The Hall has a morality clause which, while vague and controversial, keeps writers from voting for players because of off-the-field behaviour. Vizquel has denied all allegations against him and settled a lawsuit in 2022. He has two more years left.
The results of the 2025 Hall of Fame elections will be announced on January 21st.
