Based on the very few moves they've made, it's hard to be optimistic about the Blue Jays upcoming season, and FanGraphs' latest projection will make it even more difficult.
Dan Szymborski, the author of the article, admitted that he expected the Blue Jays to be a better team in 2024, and pointed to injuries along with some disappointing individual seasons as to why he was incorrect.
He expects the Blue Jays to be better this season, albeit not by much.
The two players Szymborski is referring to, of course, are Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Bo Bichette
Bo Bichette is a player Szymborski pointed towards as a bounce-back candidate this season.
The 26-year-old is coming off of a rough and injury-riddled 2024 season, but is expected by many to get back to playing at an All-Star level.
The issue for the Blue Jays, however, is that he is set to become a free agent next offseason and reportedly has no interest in an extension.
As for Vladimir Guerrero Jr., he was signed to a one-year $28.5 million deal yesterday, but his future in Toronto also looks bleak.
Vladdy and the Blue Jays are reportedly far apart in regards to a long-term extension, which is a scary situation given that he too will be a free agent next offseason.
While anything can happen in baseball, the 2025 season looks as though it will be another challenging one for this organization.
