The Blue Jays had interest in former New York Yankees closer Clay Holmes before Holmes signed a 3 year $38 Million contract with the New York Mets today according to Ken Rosenthal of the Athletic.
It is believed that the Blue Jays were looking at Holmes as a reliever, which isn't surprising given how fixing Toronto's bullpen is at the top of their offseason priorities.
According to Will Sammon also of the Athletic, Holmes will move back into a starting role with the Mets as he hasn't started a game since his rookie year in 2018.
It's not clear if Holmes wanted to become a starter again, like former Blue Jays reliever Jordan Hicks did last year when he left Toronto for San Francisco. Or perhaps Holmes simply didn't like the Blue Jays offer.
Never the less the search goes on for the Blue jays as they try to drastically improve their Bullpen.
I suspect that at this years Winter Meetings they try very hard to do so.
In the words of Josh Donaldson 'This isn't the try-league, Its the get-it-done league.'
The Winter Meetings are here, It's time for Ross Atkins and Mark Shapiro to get it done.
Blue Jays fans are getting impatient with this duo at the helm, they need to restore confidence in their fan base and by the looks of it their club and potential players coming to this city and country.
Why can't this front office get anything significant done like other teams in the AL East before there is nobody left on the board?
This Blue Jays fan can only hope that they can do so before it's too late.
The time is now.
