Major League Baseball recently released a list of pitchers with the most wins of the 2020s, and to the surprise of some, two Blue Jays starters made the cut. But who are they?
While pitcher wins don't carry as much weight as they once did-thanks to starters throwing fewer innings and securing fewer wins overall-they still serve as a useful gauge for effectiveness.
Gone are the days of the 20-win pitcher. We're now in an era where a 15-win season might lead the league, and that's about where things stand when looking at the most successful pitchers over the last half-decade.
Leading the pack is the Astros' Framber Valdez with 60 wins, followed closely by the Yankees' Gerritt Cole and the Phillies' Zack Wheeler, both at 59. The Blue Jays' Chris Bassitt and José Berrios come in at 4th and 5th with 58 and 56 wins, respectively.
Berrios' inclusion on the list makes sense, given his steady and effective performance since joining the Jays. Bassitt's inclusion is a bit more surprising, especially after a down year in 2024. However, he led the league with 16 wins in 2023, and also notched 15 wins the year before.
Blue Jays fans may be wondering where Kevin Gausman ranks in all of this. The ace is just outside the top 5 with 55 wins.
If Bassitt can rebound and Bowden Francis continues to impress, the Blue Jays could have a very strong starting four-exactly what this team needs to compete.
