Two days in, and Alan Roden continues to be the story of Spring Training.
After going 0-1 in Saturday's opener against the Yankees, the highly-touted prospect went 2-2 with two doubles and an RBI versus the Boston Red Sox on Sunday.
This is what Blue Jays fans should expect from the outfielder. While he has some pop, Roden won't hit for a ton of power, although he did hit 16 home runs in the minors last year.
What they will get however, is a "doubles machines" with a high on-base percentage. In a way, he is similar to former Blue Jays infielder Spencer Horwitz. Roden's OBP last year was .391.
Roden, who can play both corner outfield spots as well as potentially first base, looks to begin the year in Triple-A Buffalo.
However, with very little left to prove, if he has strong spring, he could force the Blue Jays hand and make the opening day roster.
While Roden's main attraction is his ability to get on base, his defence is nothing to sneeze at. Plus, being surrounded by gold glove winner Daulton Varsho and new outfield coach Kevin Kiermaier can't hurt either.
Earlier in the Spring, Roden was singled out by both manager John Schneider and General Manager Ross Atkins as the one to watch.
Clearly, Roden isn't letting the pressure get to him.
Even he ends up starting the year in the minors, barring a serious injury, Blue Jays fansshould see him make his major league at some point in 2025.
