The Toronto Blue Jays finally got some good news on the injury front!
Daulton Varsho, who has been out since September with a rotator cuff injury, is set to make his spring debut on Friday, according to SportsNet's Hazel Mae.
While he won't take the field, Varsho will serve as DH while he continues to ramp up his throwing and get his arm back to full strength.
While he is throwing from approximately 120 feet, manager John Schneider wants to err on the side of caution and make sure Varshos arm is mostly back before having him play the field.
Getting Varsho back in time for opening day would be huge for the Blue Jays, who currently boast an outfield of Anthony Santander, George Springer, and either Nathan Lukes or Joey Loperfido.
While Springer is a plus defender, Santander had a -7 DRS last season. Loperfido and Lukes are versatile, with the latter able to cover all three positions, but are both still relatively unseasoned.
Varsho won a gold glove last year for the Blue Jays, after several previous nominations; he is the anchor of the Blue Jays outfield and one of the best overall defensive players in the game today.
With Varsho in centre, and Andres Gimenez now at 2nd base, the Blue Jays boast one of the better defensive teams in all of baseball.
Let's hope the offensive side of the team kicks in as well.
