With a relatively slow off-season awaits a seismic announcement, many analysts and writer are left to deal win hypotheticals. The Blue Jays who have been called confusing, baffling, and desperate, are no exception to this rule.

Recently, Zachary Rymer of Bleacher Report proposed a deal that would Toronto acquire All-Star third baseman Alec Bohm from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for Davis Schneider and Jake Bloss.

While Schneider is certainly a candidate to be dealt given the Blue Jays plethora of 2nd baseman, it is unlikely that they would also flip Bloss so soon after making him the centrepiece of the Yusei Kikuchi deal.

Bloss represents the biggest pitching depth the Jays have right now, with both Ricky Tiedemann and Alec Manoah recovering from injuries.

And while the Blue Jays are targeting several big name pitchers, it is also possible that Bloss begins the season in the rotation.

Acquiring Alec Bohm would also negatively impact Ernie Clement.

The Blue Jays infielder broke out last year, hitting 12 home runs on his way to being name a Gold Glove finalist.

And while Clement can also play both second base and shortstop, with Bo Bichette returning and Will Wagner being given to start at 2nd, it is unknown how much playing time Clement would receive at either of those positions.

Plus, 3rd base is also Clement's best and most comfortable position. That was where he appeared most during his breakout year.

And while Alec Bohm was elected to his first all-star game last year, the numbers between him and Clement are not that different.

While Bohm did lead Clement in most counting stats (the biggest being in OPS+ with Bohm having 117 against Clement's 95), Clement's war was half a point higher.

Bohm also had only three more home runs in 154 more plate appearances.

The real difference was in dWar where Clement's 2.1 far outpaced Bohm's 0.1.

It is unknown whether the Blue Jays will actually pursue Bohm, but in an off-season where every move will be scrutinised, no proposal is off the table.
